Scraptures Tuesday's Temptation

Morning my scrappy peeps!

This month Christa, over at Scraptures (my favourite scrappy place) has asked me to do the Tuesday's Temptation for the month of June. After checking to make sure that June only had 4 Tuesdays & not 5, I said "Sure, I'd love to." LOL!

Here is a sneak peak at my layout for this week....

Creativity is Contagious

Well, after attempting to do mixed media canvases (with some success), I bit the bullet and started an Art Journal. This is quite fun. I used paint, modelling paste (dyed with reinkers), sprays, stamps, etc....FUN and MESSY!

My First Mixed Media

OK...so I have caved into all the hype about mixed media and let me tell you, it's not as scary as it looks. After spending last weekend in the Scraptures booth at ScrapFest in Kitchener across from the FABULOUS Karen Ellis from The Art House Studio's booth,  looking at all her amazing stuff, and seeing all of my friend, Amy's stuff, I decided to take the plunge. I bought some canvases (on sale), stencils, a few paints, some Gesso and some modelling paste (with a M's coupon).

I watched 2 or 3 of Karen's Ustream videos to get an idea of what some of this stuff is for. So this afternoon I sat down in my scrappy space and got messy! Yes, MESSY!

Without further ado, here is my very first mixed media canvas! (please be kind)

A close up of the flowers that I made after watching Michelle do the (endless) hours of make n' takes in the booth at ScapFest
The canvas didn't turn out the way I initially envisioned it, but I am completely happy with the final product...funny how that happens.

Long Time, No Post!

Wow...I can't believe that it has been 2 months since I last posted. Those 2 months have literally flown by, with no craftiness done what-so-ever!

Hubs and I were in Orlando for an extremely quick trip. He had meetings for work and they invited the spouses along. We flew out on the 25th of Feb and flew home on the 27th....see quick. We stayed at a rather posh, boutique type hotel called The Grand Bohemian. Simply beautiful It was my first time in Florida & we didn't do too much, but it was just nice to be in t-shirts and capris in February! Then he had to go back to the ship the very next day.

March flew by just as fast. Our daughter went to Europe for 10 days. Spain and France to be exact. So the first part of the month was taken up with getting all her stuff ready. She left on the 8th. Hubs got home that night, kinda sad that he missed seeing her off though.

Our daughter (right) and her bestie all ready to go...Mom holding back tears!

Bye girls, see you in 10 days....Mom not doing so well holding back tears!

Then our son had a hockey tourney in Niagara Falls from the 11-13th (which they never won a game~they were missing quite a few players). Then another tourney from the 14-17th. This time in Pittsburgh, Pa. They made it to the semi-finals. It was a fun tourney. He really liked it because there was body contact...Mom...not so much.

Our daughter got home on the 18th from her trip and then we flew out on the 20th to BC for my brother's wedding on the 23rd. We had a blast . Both Hubs and I were in the wedding party. It was so nice to be be with my entire family at one time. That doesn't happen very often. We were back home (late) on the 25th. Man were we tired. Took quite a while to feel "normal" again

Our family shot!
Hubs headed back to the ship Easter weekend and I have been busy with kids stuff. So hoping to get back down to my scrappy space this week.

So that has been my life, in a nut-shell, for the last couple of months...sorry, not crafty posts...fingers crossed they resume again soon!

A {Messy} Layout & 2 Cards

I was busy last night. I did a layout & 2 cards. I was on a role let me tell ya. Also didn't hurt that I was watching one of my new favourite shows, Person of Interest, on line. I have always liked crime dramas and this show is such a different twist on that genre.

Now to my scrappy stuff. I did the layout for Amy's Tuesday Temptations Challenge from February 4th. The challenge was to get messy, which can be difficult for me, but I did it! I started with the cream cardstock, put a template over it & then used a sponge and "pounced" Basic Grey ink over it. Then I laid it down and dropped droplets of spray mists on it, then sprayed it with about 4 different sprays. Ripped the edges and inked it with blue  ink. I thought all that made it less feminine. Thumbs Up I also inked the paper that I was matting my picture with, the tag (or what ever you would call that) and the saying strip...which I then cut up

Next up is my take on Laurie's Finally Friday Challenge from February 8th. It is my version of a Valentine's card for my son....you know you can't get mushy with 15 year old boys. Embarrassed

This is a scrap lift from a picture that I saved on my computer before I had Pinterest. If you know the original source, please let me know so that I can give credit where credit is due.

Finally, here is my take on Teresa's Wild Card Wednesday Challenge from this week. T wanted us to KISS~Keep It Simple Silly and use 4 layers and a port hole in our card. I made this card for my daughter's Valentine.

A Birthday Card

Today is my sister-in-law Lisa's birthday. When I sat down to make a card, I didn't want to make and ordinary card, so I searched for differently folded cards. I ended up making an easel card. I have never made one before. I really like how it turned out. I think I will be making more of these in the future.

Happy Birthday Lisa!

Sweet Shot Sunday

Well...I'm behind again...keep forgetting to post my pics here for SSS.

Week 4 was SELF PORTRAITS. This was harder than I initially thought. I didn't just want to do the taking the photo in the mirror shot, so I set up my camera on my tripod. Put up a black sheet on my china cabinet as a backdrop & started taking pictures. Unfortunately the ones that I liked were either blurry or the skin tones were blown out.

Here is the picture that I finally settled on. I played with it a bit in Photoshop Elements 10. I like the final outcome.

This week's theme is SHADOWS. I had no clue what I was going to do. I was out for a walk today and thankfully I had my cell phone with me to capture this picture.

Just hangin' with my Shadow

Engagement Album

PART 1

I made an engagement album for my brother and his fiancĂ©e for Christmas. I was kinda sneaky about it. I knew that they had emailed my Mom a link to see the pictures on Skydrive, so I asked my Mom to forward that link to me. I really only needed it to do this layout for a layout tag. But then my mind got to thinking, as I was looking at all the great pictures on Skydrive...these would make a wonderful album for them for Christmas...so I got to work. I had the 8.5x11 album already, so I found a really pretty paper stack at Michael's. I believe that it is K&Co. I managed to finish 40 pages for this album. When it was done, I gave it to my parents, who were going out to BC to visit my brother & {soon-to-be} sister for the holidays. They were "Vary" happy with the album when they opened it Christmas morning. The only thing that would have made it better was if we were in BC to see them open it.

Stay tuned for part 2, after I finish editing 20 more pictures heehee

My Hijacked Scrap Space

WOAH!...Hold on to your hats scrappy peeps...2 posts in one day!!!!! Shocking!!!!

OK, so I went to go down to my scrappy area to possibly do some creating last night, when lo and behold it had been hijacked by my daughter...she needed to make some pages for her Grade 11 Parenting class culminating project. No biggie, this was homework & I really didn't know what I was going to do anyway.

Earlier in the semester, she had to bring home the Real Care Baby (RCB) for a weekend to experience what it would be like to have to care for an infant for a few days. The whole experience had her so stressed out. She was really the only one supposed to care for the baby. The RCB has a sensor on it's back and the "parent" wears a sensor on a wrist band (that you can't remove) & you have to scan it with in 2 minutes of it fussing &/or crying or it is recorded as a miss-care. It will fuss at all hours too. Needless to say, Em was very happy when the weekend was over. She feels that it was a great experience though, but not one that she wants to have again any time soon! My personal opinion is that this should be mandatory for all students when they are in grade 9 health...great way to deter early pregnancy...but that is JMHO!

Back to my space being hijacked. She started making her layouts at 8pm and was done 8 layouts by 10:30!!!!!! Holy free-holies batman....that's a lot of layouts. Not even sure if my bestie (who is a speed scrapper in her own right) can compete with that. I wish that I had a quarter of Em's creativeness!!!!

Here is a pic of Em wearing the weighted pregnancy belly...not something that I want to see any time soon.

Here are the layouts that are going into the baby scrapbook. I like that she didn't choose traditional baby paper & colours....since I don't have any and she raided my stash :)

Great job Em! Not too bad for someone who hasn't scrapped in over 2 years, eh?
